Why this scores differently from PageSpeed or Lighthouse
Generic SEO scorers weight Core Web Vitals, mobile-friendliness, HTTPS, and accessibility. Those signals correlate with Google ranking. They’re the wrong measurement for whether ChatGPT or Perplexity will cite your page in an answer. AI grounding looks at a different stack: structured data (JSON-LD), AI bot access in robots.txt, llms.txt presence, entity disambiguation through Wikidata, and FAQ-style content patterns.
A page with 100/100 PageSpeed and zero JSON-LD will score poorly here. A page with 60/100 PageSpeed but rich Organization + FAQPage + Article schemas plus a Wikidata entity will score well. The Citation Scorer measures the layer that drives AI citations specifically — complementary to (not replacing) traditional SEO scorers.
Frequently asked
What is the AI Citation Heuristic Scorer?
It's a free, anonymous, instant scorer that rates a webpage's likelihood of being cited by AI search platforms (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overview). Paste a URL, optionally add your brand name, and get a single 0-100 composite score with letter grade plus the top 3-5 specific fixes that would lift the score most. The output is a quick gut-check — useful for sharing on social, comparing pages or competitors, and deciding where to invest GEO effort.
How is this different from Google Lighthouse, PageSpeed Insights, or Ahrefs?
Those tools score Google ranking signals (Core Web Vitals, backlinks, keyword density, mobile-friendliness). The Citare Citation Scorer scores AI grounding signals — the technical surfaces AI search platforms parse to decide which pages to cite. Different signals, different weights. A page can score 100 here while ranking poorly on Google, and vice versa. The two are complementary measurements of two different layers.
What signals does the Scorer actually check?
Six categories, weighted by AI-citation impact: (1) AI bot access — does robots.txt allow OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, Claude-User, Perplexity-User, GoogleOther, Googlebot, Bingbot? (2) Structured data richness — Organization with sameAs, FAQPage schema, Article schema completeness, schema.org type coverage. (3) llms.txt presence and structure. (4) Brand entity disambiguation — does the brand have a Wikidata entry that matches the URL? (skipped if no brand provided). (5) Sitemap freshness — lastmod coverage percentage. (6) Content patterns — H1 presence, heading hierarchy, FAQ patterns, alt text coverage. Each category is scored 0-100, then combined into a weighted composite.
How is this different from the full Citare audit?
The full audit at citare.ai/audit is brand-aware, requires email, and produces a comprehensive report with recommendations across SEO + GEO. The Citation Scorer is URL-only, anonymous, and instant — designed to give a 10-second gut check, not a full diagnosis. Use the Scorer when you want a quick number and the top fixes; use the full audit when you want a delivered report with deeper analysis. The two share underlying data sources but serve different stages of the workflow.
Is the Scorer accurate?
It's heuristic, not ground truth. The score reflects technical signals AI search platforms use as inputs to their grounding decisions — but no external tool can directly observe whether ChatGPT or Gemini will actually cite your page on a specific query. The score is most useful as a relative measurement: comparing your page to competitors, tracking your own page over time, or identifying which fixes will have the biggest impact. For ground-truth AI citation measurement (running queries across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overview and counting actual brand mentions), Citare Pulse and Citare Studio are the paid products that do this on a weekly basis.
