Frequently asked

What does the authority score measure?

A 0-100 score derived from OpenPageRank's normalized PageRank value for the domain. OpenPageRank crawls a large slice of the public web and computes a Google-PageRank-style graph score using the original PageRank algorithm, then re-bases it to a 0-10 decimal. Citare multiplies that by 10 and rounds for a familiar 0-100 number that maps closely to Ahrefs Domain Rating or Moz Domain Authority. Higher = more authoritative backlink profile.

How does this compare to Ahrefs DR or Moz DA?

Same idea, different graph source. Ahrefs DR scores 0-100 using Ahrefs' own crawl of ~14T pages. Moz DA scores 0-100 using Moz's crawl. OpenPageRank uses its own crawl + the original Google PageRank algorithm. The exact number won't match Ahrefs/Moz for a given domain but the ordering tends to agree — a DR 70 site is usually also OPR-strong. The advantage here: it's free, unlimited, and updated quarterly with no rate limit per signup.

Why does my new site show as 'not yet indexed'?

OpenPageRank only includes a domain once it has at least a handful of inbound links from sites already in their crawl set. New domains (under 6 months) or sites with very few backlinks typically aren't ranked yet. This isn't a bug — it's a signal that focused link-building is the next move. Once a few quality backlinks point at the site, it'll appear in the next quarterly index refresh.

How fresh is the data?

OpenPageRank refreshes the index quarterly (roughly every 3 months). For a fast-moving site, the score may lag actual link-profile changes. For most sites the score is stable across quarters. Citare additionally caches each lookup for 24h to keep the tool responsive.

What's the difference between PageRank and PageRank (int)?

Same metric, different precision. PageRank is the decimal value 0.00–10.00 (e.g. 6.27). PageRank (int) rounds to the nearest integer 0–10 — the classic Google PageRank toolbar scale. The decimal is what we use to compute the 0-100 authority score.

Is the global rank useful?

It's a rough popularity ordering across all indexed domains. Rank #1 is the single most-linked domain. A rank under 100,000 means you're in the top 0.1% of the indexed web. Mostly a vanity stat — the authority score is the actionable number.
