Frequently asked

How does the Keyword Rank Checker work?

We pull the live top 10 Google organic results for your keyword + country, then scan for any result whose hostname matches your domain. If we find one, we show the position (1-10), the matching page (URL + title + snippet), and the full top 10 for context. If we don't find a match in the top 10, you rank 11+ (or don't rank at all yet) — we tell you so honestly. We don't paginate past 10 in the free tool to keep API quota free; the SERP-Checker tool gives the same data for the top 10 if you want to browse competitors.

Why doesn't it show position 11-100?

Each additional page of Google results is another API call against our paid SERP providers. The free tool intentionally caps at top 10 so it stays free indefinitely. Position 11+ usually doesn't matter for organic traffic anyway — <0.6% of searchers click past page 1. If you need to track 11-100 over time, that's what Citare Pulse's Rank Tracker does (full top-100 with daily history).

Does it match subdomains too?

Yes. If you enter "example.com" and a result from "blog.example.com" ranks in the top 10, that counts as a match (we check `hostname === domain` OR `hostname.endsWith('.' + domain)`). The displayed position will be that result's. If multiple subdomains rank in the top 10, we surface the highest one as the match and the others appear in the top-10 list below.

Why does country matter for rank?

Google personalizes results by geography even for the same query. Your site might rank #4 in the US, #12 in the UK, and #1 in India for the exact same keyword. Always check from the country your audience actually searches in. We support 10 countries; for less common geos, use the SERP Checker tool which has the same country selector.

How fresh is the rank?

We fetch the live SERP for each (domain, keyword, country) check then cache the result for 24 hours. So if you check, then change your title tag, then check again 10 minutes later — you'll see the cached old rank. Wait 24 hours OR use a different (keyword, country) combo to bust the cache and see a fresh read.

What does "via scrape.do" vs "via serpapi" mean?

Citare runs two SERP providers in parallel — scrape.do (primary, cheaper) and SerpAPI (fallback). When one's free quota fills, we transparently fall back to the other. The badge shows which provider served your specific check. The rank data is identical either way — both scrape the live Google SERP and return organic results 1-10.
